2011 was a busy year for all of us at DPLenticular, and with that in mind, we bring you an overview of the good things that happened last year, and a look at what we have in store for 2012.

New fully recyclable Lenstar Plus material
A milestone in 2011 was the introduction of the new fully recyclable lenticular Lenstar Plus material. The material was rigorously tested over several months before the actual release, and the feedback from our customers was very positive. Not only is the Lenstar Plus material an important environmental step forward, but also press stability and registration have improved. All this whilst retaining its already well known benefits of clarity and process ability. As a result, initial color to color registration has been easier, thus potentially decreasing press make ready times. Good news for those who want to become even more efficient and successful in the lenticular print business.

Modified 3D 100 LPI lens
Another important improvement was the lens modification of the existing 3D 100 LPI lens. The thickness of the material was reduced from 580µ to 546µ. This has the dual effect of reducing the cost and improving the printability on a variety of offset presses. With 3D lenticular designs in mind, the lens has also been modified to deliver even better depth, an important aspect in S3D applications.

10th anniversary celebration
In 2011, DPLenticular celebrated its 10th anniversary. Throughout the years, many printers have relied on us to help them make a successful move to lenticular printing. We believe that the combination of solid hands-on technical experience, good sales, service and support, have been the solid building blocks to get us this far. Our team has been instrumental in building long term relationships with our customers, and we are more than ready to move forward in the actual “jungle”.

Lenstar Lenticular Print Award
The first LLPA in Paris was a great success. This award was a new event in our market, and an initiative of DPLenticular and www.lenstar.org, an organization committed to bringing the latest information on lenticular and new direct-to-lens lenticular printing technologies. It caught the interest of not only the printers, but also the machine manufacturers and advertising agencies. In 2012, the drupa year, the LLPA will be a much bigger event, as the drupa organization agreed to support the award. The name will be the “Lenstar Lenticular Print Award supported by drupa 2012“, and we will have a dedicated LLPA booth at drupa. Preparation is now starting, and more news is coming soon.

New 3D 20 LPI UV-LF lens
On December 20th, we produced the first lot of our 3D 20 LPI UV-LF lens. We have been working on this project for 3 years, but now it is ready! The new lens design has been developed and produced in Europe and is based on the specifications the market wanted, which is quite unique. The result is a 20 LPI, 3 mm thick lenticular lens of 122 cm x 180 cm with a viewing angle of 37 degrees, making it ideally suited for S3D lenticular applications printed on digital devices. Furthermore, the material has been extruded with a specially developed UV protection resin to preserve colors when used in outdoor conditions such as railway stations or bus shelters.

Short news items

  • Pacur introduced new pallets, more rigid, for easier movement of the pallets, and better protection of the Lenstar material.
  • We continue to introduce the flexo market to lenticular printing. We have very nice prints from LabelExpo produced on our 150LPI flexo material, by OMET with Pixalen artwork. We believe it is still possible to improve the quality.
  • India, here we come! In November, we exhibited at Pamex in India for the first time. Exciting to see how this new market is developing.
  • Last but not least, Thanks to the healthy financial situation of DPLenticular, we were able to increase our stock levels in 2011. This large stock in the centrally located port of Antwerp, enables us to deliver to our European customers in the shortest delivery times possible. A huge advantage compared to some of the other vendors in the market.
